Guideline Index / ACS Style
01 / Author Format

Surname + Initials

List surname followed by initials with periods, separated by semicolons. For edited books, add "Ed." or "Eds." after editor names.

02 / Title Style

Italicize Title

Book titles are italicized. Include edition information after the title, e.g., "7th ed." Use sentence case for book titles.

03 / Citation System

Three Systems

ACS supports superscript, italic numbers, or author-date. For books, the format varies slightly per system but core elements remain the same.

04 / Publication

Publisher + Location

Include publisher name and location (city, state/country) before the year. Format: "Publisher: City, State, Year; pp XX–YY."
